...sunday beautiful sunday...

Yesterday Wollie and me had such a cool day. We started it off by watching a race at Marienplatz. I wanted to run the race but entry was 33euros (R330) which seemed a little ridiculous and therefore I didn't run it. But then we still watched and it was pretty cool. The traditional "Münchner Stadtlauf" (which means city run) happens once a year, this was the 33rd, where thousands of people take part. Runners can choose between a half marathon or a 10k run and a 2km run for kids. Everything was very well organized, but I still believe SA races are cooler.

After the race we made our way to the zoo. Wollie has been wanting to go to the zoo in SA already but we never got around to it. The cutest thing at the zoo where the monkeys...there were little baby gorillas and orangutans and they were just too cute. Wollie also let the rhino lick his hand. We had yummy lunch there with some beers, ended up a little tipsy but it was nice!

...best present ever...

A while back we went to go and visit some family friends of Wollie's parents. They phoned us in the first week we were here and wanted us to come over for coffee and to look at some stuff they wanted to throw away. So eventually we made our way there to have a look at what they had. When we got there Wollie and me did a happy dance cause the stuff was amazeballs. They are moving into a bigger and better place and needed to get rid of some furniture, and as you know...we NEED furniture, so we scored a massive wall unit, 4 dining room chairs and a little mirror cupboard thing...best thing is, we got it all for free, didn't have to pay, trade or offer anything.
Yesterday was a public holiday, so we took the time to move it. It was a miserable rainy day and we had to hire a moving van as we don't have a car, but everything went well.  Now we have some furniture, our TV is no longer in our bedroom, my computer no longer on the floor and we are 2 very very happy people.

Thanks Volker family...you truly made our year.

Setting it all up...bigger than we expected.

and tadaa...we have a stunning wall with all our stuff in it.

...walking is good for the soul...

Last night Wollie and me stuffed ourselves with some homemade curry and afterwards we felt like going for a digestive walk. So off we went at about 8.30 for a nice stroll around our neighborhood. We walked down Prinzregentenstr and at the end of the road is this massive monument called the 'Friedensengel', or the Angel of Peace. It is such a pretty sight. It is part of the Maximilian Park and is a big square monument, with a small temple at the bottom showing the portraits of the German Emperors and a 38 meters high Corinthian style column, with a statue of the angel of peace at the top. Two staircases lead to the observation deck and the road circles around it. Probably one of the prettiest roads in Munich with green trees and parks all around. The people were sitting on the monument drinking beers and having picnic watching the sunset. Love it.

All around Munich are walk- and bicycle ways which runs along the Isar river and just under the monument is a bridge for the cyclists with the coolest graffiti.

...totally forgot to add these pics...

On Sunday we had the weirdest weather, first it was sunny, then a light drizzle, then as we left the house there was a massive cloud burst with hail (me and peter were trying to find shelter under a bridge) and later it was sunny again. That is why the people say Europe has all seasons in one day...it was crazy. We went to the Neue Pinakothek to check educate our brains a little.

Saw some really great stuff, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Gustav Klimt and Auguste Rodin amongst others.

After educating ourselves we fed ourselves and had some amazing cheesecake and coffee at this cute little coffee shop, Cafe Hölzl, in Maxvorstadt.

An inspiring little coffee shop.

...our first visitor...

Peter came to visit us for the weekend and we had loads of fun. He was our first guest in out new place and it was great.

A cherry coke, the biggest coke, Chinese Tower in The English Garden and Wollie and Peter fooling around town.

On Sunday morning we made breakfast, but we don't have tables or chairs yet, so we had a picnic on the floor. It was goooood.

Our picnic breakfast and Peter's bedroom all in our lounge.

...i finally did it...

I have been wanting to cut a fringe for ages now and couldn't decide if I should do it or not. Then the other day I went to the hairdresser to take the plunge. I had to pay 44euro's for a wash, cut and blow dry...washing here isn't part of the deal, if you want them to wash your hair you have to pay extra. She cut it but I didnt like it, she made it to thin and it looked yukky, so I googled 'cutting your own fringe' and did it myself and now I love it.

...finally we have a kitchen...

The kitchen people were supposed to install our kitchen on Wednesday...they were scheduled to arrive at 9 but only showed up at 4 (German precision my ass). I was super irritated cause I kept phoning them to check where they were, but they couldnt give me a time, so I had to wait around the entire day just for in case...anyway, they eventually arrived and just connected the dishwasher, sink and washing machine...then left everything all messy and said they would come back Friday to finish. It was one old man, about 60 years old who installed our kitchen all by himself. respect guy!

Installation in progress

Then on Friday the man came back...and finished...again he said it would be done by lunch time but he only left here just before 5. At around 10 he came to me and said he spotted some beers and would like to have one to get hom started...maybe that's why he only finished so late cause he ended up having 3.
(There's a good reason why they called the beer Bavarian tapwater). Now we have a stunning new kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, stove, cupboards etc...never been so happy to have a kitchen.

Done! And we got a new Coffee machine, toaster and kettle.

PS: We still need to get a proper light...our lights in the bedroom, guest room and kitchen still look like this.
